Note from Day Undefined:

Karen shares how she uses this motion sensor light strip in her bathroom during power outages; but motion sensor light strips can be useful for regular use! For example, it can be helpful to put them in places where you might need light during the night (i.e., near their bed or along the route to the bathroom). These strips are also often referred to as "under cabinet" lighting - another place where they can be useful.

Product Review by Karen: (meet our team)

PROS:

  • Auto motion detector, lighting up after motion is detected and turning off after 20 seconds
  • Flexible mounting; wall mount with screws or included damage-free Command Strips by 3M
  • Rechargeable, no batteries to replace
  • Includes two light strips and a 48-in USB charging cord

CONS:

  • Only stays on for 20 seconds in auto detection mode [Karen actually recommends looking for a model that allows you to adjust the length of time that the light stays on before automatically turning off, if this is important to you]
  • Tiny "on-off" switch
  • Cannot adjust to longer “on” time (only to continuously on)

My recommendation:

I strongly encourage the use of some type of emergency lights, ready for use and easily to locate, in the instance of a power failure. It may even be wise to keep on your mobility device like a walker or wheelchair. Battery-powered lights are always preferred to candles, due to inherent safety issues with open flames, even when small. For the motion detection light, I would prefer an enhanced model, made with user ability to adjust the "on" time.
