If you have ever smashed, cracked, or busted your fingers and knuckles while using an assistive device through a narrow doorframe, you will want to read on about this product. With a standard door hinge, a doorframe becomes narrower by design, which may make it difficult or impossible to navigate through it while using a wheelchair, rollator, or walker.
In comparison, this door hinge allows a door to swing completely clear of the opening, which provides approximately 1-2 inches of additional clearance (when the door is opened at 90 degrees). This may not seem like much, but it can mean all the difference in the world, especially when you live in an older house. Having these installed has greatly decreased the frequency of my hand injuries.
PRO:
- Fewer hand injuries due to narrow doorframes.
- They are available in either chrome or brass to complement your decor.
MEH:
- These are sold as a single item, so you will need to purchase more than one per door.
- You will likely need assistance installing the hinges.
CON:
- The door may become more difficult to close if the hinges are not installed correctly.
