Note from Day Undefined:

Karen liked her first "touchless" trash can so much that she bought a second, larger one for her kitchen. She reviews both of them for you below. Please note that while she initially liked the larger kitchen trash can, there was a design flaw and she would not recommend the model that she reviewed.

Update (Sept. 2024): Karen had to pursue a refund for the large (16 gal) motion sensor trash can because the battery compartment cover (located underneath the lid frame) kept falling out, and the batteries eventually fell out. Please scroll down for the full update. Not recommended

  • How long I've been using this product: A few weeks

  • How often I use this product: Multiple times a day

  • My gut feeling: Great product, easy hands-free open and closing lid. Can use a larger capacity in kitchen.

  • Why did you choose this product? Needed in areas where I frequently dispose of small items in trash, without me having to lift a lid or step on a pedal to open lid.

  • What are its pros? Touchless (motion sensor-operated lid) trash disposal in bedroom or bathroom; takes any 4 gallon size trash bags; contains garbage odors well

  • What are its cons? Requires 4 AA batteries. Glitchy for a short while if user forces lid open or closed by hand; user can easily inadvertently trigger motion sensor when just passing by this trash can.

Update (Sept. 2024):

I had to pursue a REFUND on this the kitchen motion sensor trash can. The battery compartment cover (located underneath the lid frame) kept falling off, hence both the AA batteries holder and the lithium battery fell off and we were unaware each time. They apparently fell into the garbage bag and were thrown out with the garbage, (the whole lid has to be removed manually in order to remove the garbage bag, so we did not know the sensor was not working.)

I have found a similar product, same shape and size, but the battery compartment locks in place. I will review that as well and make a point it's best to choose a touchless sensor trash can with the locking battery compartment. It is a con that the battery door and battery can fall off into the garbage bag. I really like the practicality though.

Original Review (August 2024):
  • How long I've been using this product: A few days

  • How often I use this product: Multiple times a day

  • My gut feeling: Great replacement for traditional or "step-on" trash cans

  • Why did you choose this product? Hope to use in kitchen in place of traditional lidded garbage can which requires two hands to lift and hold open or operation of a foot pedal to raise lid.

  • What are its pros? Excellent alternative to traditional trash cans, since I cannot raise one foot to operate foot pedal or use one or both hands to hold lid open while scraping a plate or disposing of trash. Trash can has 2 recessed handles on the side and the lid is easily removable for adding or removing the trash bag.

    • What are its cons? This model requires some easy assembly, for which user may need help; AA batteries not included
