Product Review by Joni: (meet our team)
Hey folks! Today, I’m going to be reviewing one of my favorites: Philips Hue smart lighting products. Now, there are no fees associated with the operation of these products, but in order to make this lighting system work in your home, you will need a few components. This may deter you at first, but please read on to find out why I highly recommend these products, after using them in my own home for over four years. For the initial setup, you will need to have a modem and router with Wi-Fi service, as well as a Hue Bridge hub and at least one Hue bulb.
Once your Hue system is set up, it’s easy to control your lights, whether you are at home or miles away, either individually or by room. When your device is connected locally to your home Wi-Fi network, you can use voice-activated assistants, like Siri and Alexa, to turn any bulb on or off, or to simply change their brightness. Even when you’re away from home, you can control them using the Google Home app or the Hue app. Recurring automations can also be set up in the Hue app. You could, for example, program your outdoor lights to come on from sunset to sunrise; this can be a useful safety measure to prevent break-ins or to deter curious baddies.
After you’ve done the initial setup, you can add more and more (and more!) bulbs to your system. A single hub can support up to 50 bulbs. Since the bulbs are LED, you will probably go years before having to replace them. They also use less energy, so that’s good news for both your electricity bill and the environment. But the best part for me: no more standing up and teetering out of my wheelchair to reach for light switches. I can control everything safely right from my smartphone.
In fact, Philips offers many different types of Hue units that can connect with (and some without) a hub. There are color-changing bulbs, motion-sensing security lights, and vintage filament bulbs, to name just a few. All of these and more can be purchased from the Hue store.
I hope you found this information helpful.
