Toilet Safety Frame

video review

Video description: Christina shows you the toilet safety frame that is free standing around the base of the toilet but creates two sturdy handles with black foam grips on either side of the toilet to help sit and stand at the toilet. She uses them to sit down at the toilet and shows a closeup of the black foam grips.

intro

Need some extra support while standing or sitting at the toilet? This frame does just that but does not require permanent installation and can be found on Amazon for as low as $30 (although that price comes and goes). However, this might not be the right solution for some mobility device users! Please read on…

What works well:

  • Sturdy frame with comfortable hand grips
  • More affordable price
  • Doesn’t require permanent installation and can be set up relatively quickly

Things to consider:

  • This might not work for transferring, depending on your mobility device and needs. For example, this would not work for Liam when transferring from a wheelchair because the armrest on one side cannot be lifted up. It’s important to explore the features of different types of frames.
  • Not a real replacement for grab bars
  • Might need help setting it up

notes, hacks and tips

If you are unsure about whether this frame would work for you, consider borrowing one from a community organization in your area that loans assistive devices! Christina calls this her “toilet getter upper” and they actually first borrowed it when her husband had an injury and then later purchased one.

We are sharing a very similar model from a different brand because the one we found for a low price later shot up in price. It’s important to look around and sometimes wait for deals if price is important to you.
