Product Recommendation by Melodie: (Melodie is not part of our review team, but submissions are always welcome!)

Tight fit without laces. I love these for my son. He has muscle coordination issues and can’t tie laces. We’ve tried elastic ones but they tend to loosen up and fray over time and are never really tight enough. These are easy* to fasten and unfasten and allow a tight fit that is good for sports or hiking shoes to feel secured. You can take them off with one hand or a stick but ideally need two to press them together for the magnet to snap close.

[*We know that easy for one is not easy for all! When opening Zubits by hand, it is recommended to use a twisting motion that may or may not be easy for individuals.]

Product Tip from Karen:

Originally I ordered the Adult size and due to my weak leg strength, they didn't open up well to take them off.*  The magnet strength was too strong.
I placed another order for the kids/elderly size. For me they do work better, requiring less strength. The kid's one is smaller/shorter than the other one, but they work just fine.
[*Karen is describing using a technique of using one foot to pull off the heel of the shoe on the other foot. This is the method demonstrated in the video on this page.]

Product Review by Joni: (meet our team)

Hey folks! Today I’m going to be reviewing a really cool product: the ZUBITS magnetic lacing solution. ZUBITS magnets come in several different colors to match your shoes and personal style, and in three different strengths: child, adult/youth, and performance.

Because I have trouble with dexterity, tying my shoelaces can be a huge drain, especially when I have to get somewhere on time. I’ve tried just about everything *not* to have to tie my laces. I’ve left them loose, but this is a major tripping hazard. I’ve kept them knotted and slipped my shoes on, but over time this damaged the back lining of my footwear. At my wit’s end, I bought some elastic laces, but they were so loose that my shoes oftentimes fell off my feet. So when I heard about ZUBITS, I knew I had to try them for myself.

I chose the orange ZUBITS, to add a fun flash of color and to compliment my everyday tennis shoes. Since my feet tend to run on the narrower side, and because I prefer my laces to be tight, I erred on the side of caution and chose the performance strength. Holy buckets—these are strong magnets! And as well they should be, since they’re meant to stand up to vigorous athletic activity. They’re a little too strong for me, though. I don’t have a lot of muscle control, so it’s difficult for me to separate the magnets. Also because my shoes are laced so tightly, this makes it harder to attach the magnets over the tongue.

In addition to fastening your shoes, ZUBITS can help with organization by keeping your shoes paired together; just snap the magnets together. Overall, they are a convenient alternative to tying (or *not* tying) your shoelaces. Just be sure to get the strength level that’s right for you. I will buy these again, but I’ll choose casual adult wear—level 2.
